Alta Via Consulting's Named Professorship
Alta Via Consulting, LLC is committed to supporting higher education and the academic research efforts needed within the field of managerial accounting. A professorship was established five years ago at Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, Illinois (approx. 60 miles west of Chicago). Northern Illinois University’s Accountancy program has been ranked among the most elite in the nation. The Public Accounting Report's 27th Annual Professor's Survey published in 2008, ranked NIU's Accountancy program 13th in the United States and one of only four non-Ph.D. programs in the top 15.
Dr. B.Douglas (Doug) Clinton
Alta Via Consulting through its named professorship recognizes the need for continuous research to attract, develop and acknowledge deserving faculty in a higher education environment. Therefore, we have awarded this professorship to Dr. B.Douglas (Doug) Clinton, managerial accounting professor of undergraduate and graduate studies in the Accountancy Department at NIU’s College of Business.
In 2009, Dr. Clinton was involved with two significant managerial accounting publications. The first publication, co-authored with Alta Via principal, Anton van der Merwe titled First Principles For Management Accounting; was a proposal prepared for the Institute of Management Accountants’ new Statement on Management Accounting (SMA). And in July 2009, the Professional Accountants in Business of the International Federation of Accountants, of which Dr. Clinton participated as a task member, released the International Good Practice Guidance: Evaluating and Improving Costing in Organizations and its companion document, Evaluating the Costing Journey: A Costing Levels Continuum Maturity Model providing insights on universal costing principles.
In addition to his full-time teaching status and professorship, Dr. Clinton has various involvements with the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). He serves as: Contributing Editor for Strategic Cost Management and Senior Content Advisor to the IMA’s Research Centre of Excellence; member of the ICMA Board of Regents (regulators of the CMA exam); and as an Editorial Board Member of Strategic Finance and Management Accounting Quarterly. He is also Associate Editor for Advances in Accounting Behavioral Research. Dr. Clinton’s credentials include published articles in the following academic and professional journals:
